Bwana bob kona vacation cottage11/29/2023 ![]() Yes, we would stay at Bwana Bobs again and would highly recommend them to anyone. Getting there requires good humor because it is at the end of a bumping road and you wonder what you will find at the end, but keep driving and you will arrive at their tropical paradise. The cottage were wonderful, the grounds amazing, and the hosts exceptional. No, they aren't on the beach, but boy am I glad we ended up there. They had two cottages available and we booked them. I found the site for Bwana Bobs and called them. I found Bwana Bobs because we were interested in being south of Kona for good snorkeling and I did a google search for lodging hear Captain Cook. However, we booked our trip late for Christmas this year and were unable to locate a beach rental. We usually try to book a home right on the beach. My husband and I travel all over Virgin Islands, Mexico, Hawaii, etc. Yes, my husband and I along with another couple, booked two cottages at Bwana Bobs this Christmas (2005). I can't imagine a more perfect getaway than we had, and we'll plan our next vacation around when they're available. The price is a fantastic deal, especially given the complete privacy, perfect views and free use of the (very high quality) beach towels, chairs, snorkel gear etc in the closet. Susan is great about helping you plan and has lots of wonderful ideas about where to eat and what to do nearby, and they're so inviting that they'll let you use the laundry in their house. The location is great in the middle of the Kona coffee belt, right up mountain from Place of Refuge and Kealakekua Bay. The pictures on their Web site are exactly what you'll see when you get there. Deciding where to be on the Big Island is a huge decision, given all the activities available there, but this place was the best choice we could have made! We were greeted every sunrise with birdcalls and a view of the Pacific beyond the stately papaya tree in their fantastic garden (which blooms somewhere year round and is full of neat geckos). We stayed at Bwana Bob's over Christmas 2005. Steve and Susan are super hosts, respecting your privacy but available for whatever you may need to make your stay a pleasant one. ![]() It’s a great bonus while you’re staying there and we order it regularly when we’re back home on the mainland. Besides developing and maintaining the beautiful gardens, he grows and roasts some of the best Kona coffee we have found. To top it all off, Steve is a fine plantsman. ![]() Susan has done a great job in collecting tropical furnishings and curios from all over the Pacific to decorate the interiors. ![]() They have done an excellent job in locating each one so it is totally private and sheltered from any of others while still offering great views of the beautiful grounds and spectacular coast and countryside. It’s quiet, secluded, exquisitely landscaped and maintained, and has a spectacular view of the coast.Įach of the three cottages they offer has it’s own unique decor and character. There may be nothing else on the island to quite match what the owners/hosts Steve and Susan have achieved with this property. The last time we stayed there was last year and it was our fifth visit. Of all the places we’ve stayed by far our favorite is Bwana Bob’s. We are longtime visitors to the Big Island, having first started going there more than 12 years ago. TIP: To store creamer, I remove the label from an old, empty creamer container. Now the creamer is ready to enjoy! See how easy that was? Once the peppermint mocha coffee creamer is fully combined, place a funnel into the neck of an airtight jar or bottle you’re using for the creamer. Storing The Peppermint Mocha Coffee Creamer ![]() NOTE: If using an electric mixer, blend, using the LOWEST setting, so the liquid doesn’t splatter everywhere, ok? Whisk or blend the creamer only until everything is completely blended. I have used both, but because the sweetened condensed milk is very thick, I find that using an electric mixer works best. You can use a wire whisk for this OR an electric mixer. The only thing you need to do to prepare the creamer is to thoroughly combine the ingredients. Measure all of the creamer ingredients into a large bowl. You can garnish each steaming hot mug of coffee with them, but that is completely optional! If you want to “fancy the coffee up” for serving, you will also want to have whipped cream and some crushed peppermint sticks. These ingredients are all you will need, and can be found in most grocery stores. Carbon dioxide definition11/29/2023 ![]() 1 2 Carbon dioxide removal ( CDR ), also known as carbon removal, greenhouse gas removal ( GGR) or negative emissions, is a process in which carbon dioxide gas (CO 2) is removed from the atmosphere by deliberate human. Fossil fuel transfers carbon from the slow domain to the fast domain, while bioenergy systems operate within the fast domain. Planting trees is a nature-based way to temporarily remove carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. *IPCC distinguishes between the slow domain of the carbon cycle, where turnover times exceed 10,000 years, and the fast domain (the atmosphere, ocean, vegetation and soil), vegetation and soil carbon have turnover times in the magnitude of 1– 100 and 10– 500 years, respectively. Instead, the biogenic carbon flows and any fossil GHG emissions associated with the bioenergy system need to be compared with the GHG emissions associated with the energy system displaced, considering also biogenic carbon flows in the absence of the bioenergy system. The net greenhouse gas (GHG) outcome of using biomass for energy cannot be determined by comparing emissions at the point of combustion. In other words, fossil fuel use increases the total amount of carbon in the biosphere-atmosphere system while bioenergy systems operates within this system biomass combustion simply returns to the atmosphere the carbon that was absorbed as the plants grew.* However, statements like “the use of woody biomass for energy will release higher levels of emissions than coal” overlook the fundamental difference between energy supply from fossil fuels and from biomass: burning fossil fuels releases carbon that has been locked up in the ground for millions of years, while burning biomass emits carbon that is part of the biogenic carbon cycle. In fact, it is perfectly true that a bit more CO 2 is released per unit energy from biomass than from black coal – this is purely a consequence of the chemical composition of biomass and coal. There have even been headlines in the media claiming that “biomass is worse than coal”. ![]() Some people are puzzled about how bioenergy can contribute to climate change mitigation because burning biomass emits carbon dioxide (CO 2). Carbon dioxide (CO 2) is the most significant greenhouse gas. Are armadillo nocturnal11/28/2023 ![]() Their low metabolic rate and poor thermoregulation make them best suited for semitropical environments. The claws on the middle toes of the forefeet are elongated for digging, though not to the same degree as those of the much larger giant armadillo of South America. Instead, they are covered by tough skin and a layer of coarse hair. The underside of the body and the inner surfaces of the legs have no armored protection. This armor covers the back, sides, head, tail, and outside surfaces of the legs. Description Nine-banded armadillo in natural habitat (near Memphis, TN, 2010) Taxidermized armadillo shell North American subspecies exhibit reduced genetic variability compared with the subspecies of South America, indicating the armadillos of North America are descended from a relatively small number of individuals that migrated from south of the Rio Grande. The armadillo can jump 91–120 cm (3–4 ft) straight in the air if sufficiently frightened, making it a particular danger on roads. It is an insectivore, feeding chiefly on ants, termites, and other small invertebrates. The nine-banded armadillo is a solitary, mainly nocturnal animal, found in many kinds of habitats, from mature and secondary rainforests to grassland and dry scrub. Its ancestors originated in South America, and remained there until the formation of the Isthmus of Panama allowed them to enter North America as part of the Great American Interchange. Iskysoft iphone data recovery software11/28/2023 ![]() Sometimes data present in the computer gets encrypted or hidden due to reasons like virus attacks which can only be recovered by some computer forensic experts.Ī wide variety of failures can cause physical damage to storage media, which may result from human errors and natural disasters. The term "data recovery" is also used in the context of forensic applications or espionage, where data which have been encrypted, hidden, or deleted, rather than damaged, are recovered. In the meantime, the original file contents remain, often several disconnected fragments, and may be recoverable if not overwritten by other data files. In the mind of end users, deleted files cannot be discoverable through a standard file manager, but the deleted data still technically exists on the physical drive. Typically, the contents of deleted files are not removed immediately from the physical drive instead, references to them in the directory structure are removed, and thereafter space the deleted data occupy is made available for later data overwriting. In a third scenario, files have been accidentally " deleted" from a storage medium by the users. If a drive recovery is necessary, the drive itself has typically failed permanently, and the focus is rather on a one-time recovery, salvaging whatever data can be read. Depending on the situation, solutions involve repairing the logical file system, partition table, or master boot record, or updating the firmware or drive recovery techniques ranging from software-based recovery of corrupted data, to hardware- and software-based recovery of damaged service areas (also known as the hard disk drive's "firmware"), to hardware replacement on a physically damaged drive which allows for the extraction of data to a new drive. In any of these cases, the data is not easily read from the media devices. Such cases can often be mitigated by disk partitioning and consistently storing valuable data files (or copies of them) on a different partition from the replaceable OS system files.Īnother scenario involves a drive-level failure, such as a compromised file system or drive partition, or a hard disk drive failure. ![]() Many Live CDs or DVDs provide a means to mount the system drive and backup drives or removable media, and to move the files from the system drive to the backup media with a file manager or optical disc authoring software. This can be accomplished using a Live CD, or DVD by booting directly from a ROM or a USB drive instead of the corrupted drive in question. (typically, on a single-drive, single- partition, single-OS system), in which case the ultimate goal is simply to copy all important files from the damaged media to another new drive. The most common data recovery scenarios involve an operating system failure, malfunction of a storage device, logical failure of storage devices, accidental damage or deletion, etc. This is why there are specific software companies specialized in this field. ĭata recovery can be a very simple or technical challenge. Logical failures can occur due to corruption of the engineering chip, lost partitions, firmware failure, or failures during formatting/re-installation. Logical failures occur when the hard drive devices are functional but the user or automated-OS cannot retrieve or access data stored on them. Recovery may be required due to physical damage to the storage devices or logical damage to the file system that prevents it from being mounted by the host operating system (OS). ![]() The data is most often salvaged from storage media such as internal or external hard disk drives (HDDs), solid-state drives (SSDs), USB flash drives, magnetic tapes, CDs, DVDs, RAID subsystems, and other electronic devices. In computing, data recovery is a process of retrieving deleted, inaccessible, lost, corrupted, damaged, or formatted data from secondary storage, removable media or files, when the data stored in them cannot be accessed in a usual way. ![]() ( Learn how and when to remove this template message) ( April 2016) ( Learn how and when to remove this template message) Please help rewrite this article from a descriptive, neutral point of view, and remove advice or instruction. Carrot seedlings image11/28/2023 ![]() In USDA Hardiness Zones 1-2, where the growing season may not be long enough to grow carrots from seed outdoors, consider starting seedlings in biodegradable pots that can be carefully planted directly in your garden soil. When you sow your seeds, choose a location or container where you can let them keep growing in the same spot until they’re ready to harvest. Well, they don’t like to be transplanted either, which is why they are usually sown directly in the garden. So far you’ve learned that they don’t like rocks, they don’t like clods, they don’t like too much nitrogen, they don’t like weeds, and they don’t like sharing their space. This is due to the fact that these plants are highly sensitive to disturbance. Opoku, the authors of an article published in the Journal of Biology, Agriculture and Healthcare in 2017, found a clear relationship between plant density and number of deformed roots – the higher the density, the more deformities they found. This brings us to another cause of odd-shaped carrot roots: growing plants together too densely.į. While your crop is growing, there are a few ways you can keep your carrot roots on the straight and narrow, including making sure they have the space they need. Your preventive measures don’t stop with soil prep. If you tend to use commercial fertilizer, work a balanced fertilizer (5-10-10) into the soil prior to planting seeds.Ī lower ratio of nitrogen (N) to phosphorus (P) and potassium (K) is recommended for growing root vegetables, fruits, and flowers, versus leafy greens and ornamentals that require more nitrogen to put into leaf production.īut before you fertilize, why not test your soil? This way you’ll be sure of what your soil is offering your crop in terms of nitrogen (which these veggies don’t need much of) and phosphorus (which they do). Fresh manure contains more nitrogen – promoting branching, forking, and hairy roots. Now that you know when to plant carrots you’ll be able to grow your own delicious crop at home or in your vegetable garden. This means that when using manure to fertilize this crop, make sure to only use well-aged manure. 'Thin seedlings after you have watered, this will reduce the risk of breaking the roots and releasing the scent that attracts the fly,' advises Nick Welsh of Seed Craft.Īs carrots flies can only fly about 60cm off the ground, Nick also suggests, 'erecting a a barrier of fine mesh or horticultural fleece higher than this around your bed, to stop them from reaching your crop.' How to avoid carrot flyĬarrot flies are your carrots biggest enemy and will devastate an entire crop very quickly. Having loose sandy soil, will allow you to grow long slender straight carrots,' explains John. 'Carrots like loose rich soil, preferably a little sandy, and soil that’s been worked quite deeply. Make sure you choose a sunny spot in the greenhouse and sow directly into well-drained compost. If you don't manage to plant any carrot seeds in the ground during early fall, you could think about planting some in your greenhouse over the winter months for an early spring crop. (Image credit: Future/Annaick Guitteny) Can I plant carrots in a greenhouse? Varieties such as the Amsterdam and Nantes are good, fast maturing varieties, making them excellent for growing under cloches in the colder winter months. When to harvest carrots? You can force an earlier crop by using a cloche to protect your seedlings from frost. 'They need plenty of sun to grow well, so the longer spring days are perfect.'īe aware that some varieties will bolt if temperatures are too low, so choosing a variety that is hardy is key if you want to start sowing even earlier in the year. 'Carrots can be started from 1 April in the Midwest,' explains Mike Davison, greenhouse manager at Platt Hill Nursery in Illinois. However, they will germinate at temperatures as low as 40☏ (4☌). Carrots need warmth to germinate and, as such, a temperature of about 50☏– 80☏ (10 ☌–26☌) is perfect. You must take into account your specific climate, as well as the location you plan on planting the carrots – for instance whether part of your vegetable garden container ideas or directly into the ground.Īs a general rule, carrots should be sown in early spring and again in early fall.
